Is this a lye
soap?
All soap is made with lye. Soap is
made by combining fatty acids with a strong alkali (lye). The
result is SOAP. People claiming to make soap without lye are
either lying or making soap from a pre-made base they have purchased
that has already gone through this process.
Soap is made WITH lye but there is no lye
in the final product. The amount of lye needed to saponify
(turn to soap) each oil can now be calculated precisely. We
measure lye to the 1/100th of an ounce to ensure saponification and
no more. In other words, the oils and lye are combined in the
exact amounts needed to turn them into soap and there is no lye left
in the finished product.
Why do you use fresh
goat's milk?
Goat's milk has been used for centuries
as a cleanser and beauty aid. It is high in vitamins,
minerals, proteins and alpha-hydroxy acids that nourish and
rejuvenate the skin. Goat's milk has a PH close to the skins
natural PH, resulting in a mild, non-irritating, highly moisturizing
soap for even the most sensitive skin.
Because goat's milk is difficult to work
with, most people use water as a base and add a small amount of milk
or, more commonly, powdered goat milk, at the end of the process
just so they can claim it is a goat milk soap. We use
FRESH GOAT'S MILK as our base.
How did you develop a cornmeal
soap?
Since we began making soap we have become
aware of the large number of people with skin problems.
We developed our goat milk soap with these people in mind.
This soap proved mild enough for even the most sensitive skin.
It also contains sweet almond oil which is good for conditioning and
softening skin. It is especially suited for treating eczema,
itchy, dry and inflamed skin. Klaus has been listening to
Howard Garrett's (the Dirt Doctor) radio program on organic
gardening and living, "The Natural Way" for years. Many
callers began to phone in with reports of finding relief from a
variety of skin problems by using horticultural cornmeal.
Klaus began to work on incorporating this ingredient into our goat
milk soap.
This proved much more difficult than he
had anticipated. Just adding the cornmeal was
ineffective. He began to work on various methods of infusing
the cornmeal into the soap. The final product took countless
batches and about 8 months of refinement. We were not willing
to offer the soap until we had the result and response we were
striving for. We now have a soap that includes several forms
of horticultural & whole cornmeal throughout the
soap.
Why 2 styles?
The Tender Lovin' Corn is a smooth bar,
suitable for everyone. The Tough Love is the same soap but the
cornmeal is not ground as finely. This bar is wonderful for
exfoliation. Many people with skin problems have dry, flaky
patches and need exfoliation in those areas. It also makes a
wonderful shaving soap for the ladies. We have also had
reports of people using it on their dogs and having good results in
treating hot spots. We have left these soaps free of fragrance
and color for our sensitive friends.
Are there any other
benefits?
Even people with no skin sensitivities or
issues will benefit from using any of our soaps. Everyone will
find that their skin is softer and more moisurized. Many
people find that they can stop using hand and body lotions
completely after using Wildflower Soaps regularly.
